Children's Information Service
This project (referred to as CIS) has been set up to provide information about the range of childcare facilities available in County Durham as well as providing information on childcare as a career
Careers in Childcare
Quality education, care and play for children from birth to age 14 makes a real difference to their lives, laying the foundation for all round development in their crucial formative years and preparing them for adulthood.
Extended Services in Schools
DfES define an extended school as one that ‘provides a range of activities and services, often beyond the school day to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community’. These services can be delivered off school site too.
Inclusion
The Inclusion Team consists of a variety of people and projects to promote and support inclusion throughout County Durham. They host an annual Inclusion Conference where there is an opportunity to listen to keynote speakers and take part in a variety of workshops.
Play and learning
Children learn from the moment that they are born and by the time they are three years old they have learnt a great deal. Young children do not separate care and education but learn from everything around them. Central to this are strong and caring relationships between children and adults. It is important that early years practitioners work in partnership with parents and carers.

Every Child Matters
Services to children and young people are due for a radical 'shake up' following the publication of the Children Bill in March 2004. This sets out the Government's clear agenda for the development and direction of Children's Services in the future. It involves integrating and co-ordinating all services for children, young people and their families including health, social services, education, local authorities and others.
